Me time or reconnecting with yourself doesn’t have to mean spending an entire day at the health spa. If you lack the time for getting out of the house or the budget for a full on spa treatment, you can enjoy some me time at home! Me time allows you to recharge your mind and body, leaving you feeling more focused and with a clearer mind. It allows you to relax, get rid of some distress, and make yourself a priority. After some much needed me time, you will feel more energetic with increased productivity levels.
Whether it takes a few minutes or a few hours, me time is a vital component of wellness, and an act of self love and care. Here are my 10 must haves for me time at home.
10 MUST HAVES FOR ME TIME AT HOME
1. SHEET MASK
Because, skincare. Oh, how beneficial sheet masks are with their serum soaked goodness allowing for the skin to absorb for longer than usual. Sheet masks are a super convenient and inexpensive way to care for your skin. Not to mention the not-so-subtle glow you notice immediately after taking it off.
FAVE SHEET MASKS:
2. COOL GLASS OF WATER
While in relaxation mode I like to regulate my body temperature with a cool glass of water. While doing this I am also helping slow down my metabolism and keep myself focused, as cold water helps increase the heart rate and adrenaline. Besides, cold beverages are a little easier on the mouth and throat. Triple Whammy.
3. CANDLES, A BUNCH OF THEM
To add a little ambiance, I like to light a few candles. Candles help create a more cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The essentials oils in candles provide the most incredible fragrance, and the little flicker of the flame gives off a beautiful and subtle glow.
4. A GOOD BOOK
A good book allows for a literary escape to another world. Reading puts me in relaxation mode by lowering my heart rate + blood pressure. According to a 2009 study at the University of Sussex, distress is reduced up to 68% just by reading. Reading can do the same for you, just pick up one of your favorite books and escape to an alternate literary land.
5. EPSOM SALT
I like to add epsom salt to a nice hot bath for relaxation or soothing any aching muscles.
Nothing is better than some peace and quiet- especially when my little one is playing peacefully in her room, or off with her dad. Silence gives me time to become one with my thoughts, meditate, or recite some affirmations if needed.
7. LAPTOP OR TABLET
I put on my ear phones and use my laptop (sometimes iPad) to play my favorite web games or binge watch some of my favorite shows via various streaming services.
8. PEN AND JOURNAL
I absolutely love journal writing. When I’m down and out I use my me time to journal with prompts to remind myself of my significance on this earth. When I am angry I like to brain dump, sharing all my thoughts and feelings on paper. Letting out my feelings in this manner clears my mind.
Youtube offers a little bit of everything. I love to watch my favorite Youtubers live their lives (via vlogs), follow along on some workouts, or even watch videos that make no sense.
10. PERSONAL MASSAGER
When I’m in distress a tell tale sign is tension in my neck and shoulders. Sometimes they get so tight I can barely turn on any direction. So not fun. Personal massagers are a great because they’re like vibrators for the rest of your body (keep your mind out of the gutter LOL). What I do is run the massager across my shoulder blades and back of my neck for warmth and (almost) instant relief.
